Two new and unusual gins

Seville oranges and sweet violets are the crucial ingredients in Tanqueray and Zymurgorium débutants

Wetherspoon has added two new and unusual gins to the gin palace collection, especially for the summer. One is fabulously fruity, while the other is fantastically floral.

Our Tanqueray twosome has now become a trio, with the addition of NEW Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla (41.3% ABV). Made with bittersweet Seville oranges, to deliver a fruitful and zesty taste, this classic London dry gin is balanced with the four botanicals of juniper, coriander, angelica and liquorice.

Founder Charles Tanqueray was an innovator and pioneer in pursuit of the world’s finest gin.

In this pursuit, he sourced botanicals from all around the world and created over 300 recipes. It is thought that his travels to the sun-soaked groves of Spain, in the 1860s, inspired the creation of a unique gin liqueur, using Seville oranges. The taste of Tanqueray Flor de Sevilla is of the sun-soaked Mediterranean – a uniquely enjoyable, yet complex, gin. This new drink joins Tanqueray London Dry Gin (43.1% ABV) and Tanqueray No.Ten (47.3% ABV), all made in Scotland, in our ever-expanding gin palace range.

For something a little more fragrant and floral, how about our NEW Zymurgorium Sweet Violet Liqueur (18.7% ABV), from the wonderfully inventive Manchester-based distillers.

It is made with an infusion of sweet violets and refined with over 20 other botanicals contained in Zymurgorium’s Manchester Original gin. This gin liqueur has a unique sweet pastel taste and strong scent, reminiscent of the sweets from your youth – Parma Violets. Aaron Darke, founder of Zymurgorium, Manchester’s first and currently only craft distillery, has a love of culture, variation and science. He said: “The overwhelming blandness and underwhelmingly dull experiences in our world are public enemy number-one.

“Rebelling against the status quo, bringing out true quality and flavour from ingredients is what drove me to start experimenting and keeps us ahead in innovation.” Join the gin revolution and treat your taste buds to these two new terrific tipples.

The UK’s passion for the traditional spirit has exploded in recent years and doesn’t look like abating anytime soon.
At the turn of this year, there were 315 distilleries in Britain, more than double the number in operation five years ago, with 49 opening in 2017 alone. According to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association, 47 million bottles of gin were served last year – equivalent to 1.32 billion gin and tonics!

Our blushing pink gin trio each offers a sweet and fruity choice, from our gin palace. Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb & Ginger Liqueur (20% ABV) and Edinburgh Gin Raspberry Liqueur (20% ABV) both hail from Scotland’s capital city, while Gordon’s Pink Gin (37.5% ABV), from Fife, is inspired by an original Gordon’s recipe from the 1880s and is proving a big hit with Wetherspoon gin-drinkers. Also in the gin palace are Gordon’s (37.5% ABV); Portobello Road (42% ABV); Bombay Sapphire (40% ABV); Tanqueray (43.1% ABV); Tanqueray No.Ten (47.3% ABV); Sipsmith (41.6% ABV); Hendrick’s Gin (41.4% ABV).
